- John Singleton Mosby, also known as the Gray Ghost, was a Confederate cavalry commander who led daring raids behind Union lines during the Civil War. He later became a lawyer and diplomat. His exploits are commemorated in the Mosby Heritage Area and the Manassas Museum.
- Thomas Kinkade, also known as the Painter of Light, was an American painter specializing in idyllic scenes of nature and architecture. He lived in Manassas for a few years and painted several local landmarks, such as the Old Town Train Depot and the Liberia Plantation House.
- Okkervil River is an indie rock band formed in Austin, Texas, in 1998. The band’s name comes from a short story by Russian author Tatyana Tolstaya, set in Okkervil near St. Petersburg. The band’s lead singer and songwriter, Will Sheff, grew up in Manassas and often referenced his hometown in his lyrics.
- Alice Walker, is an American novelist, short story writer, poet, and activist.
